कैसा रास्ता ठंडे पहाड़ का रास्ता!
कोई नामो निशां नहीं घोड़े या गाड़ी का।
घुमावदार घाटियाँ, पेचों का पता लगाना भी मुश्क़िल।
अज़ीम टीले, कौन जाने कितने ऊंचे?
जहां हज़ारों घास की पत्तिओं से शबनम टपकती है,
जहां चीड़ के दरख्त हवा में गुनगुनाते हैं।
अब रास्ता खो गया, अब वक़्त है
जिस्म साये से पूछे: ‘घर किस तरफ़?’

What a road the Cold Mountain road!
Not a sign of horse or cart.
Winding gorges, tricky to trace.
Massive cliffs, who knows how high?
Where the thousand grasses drip with dew,
Where the pine trees hum in the wind.
Now the path’s lost, now it’s time
For body to ask shadow: ‘Which way home?’
