\nwent to my teacher,
\nshe was a pretty one.<\/p>\n

There was that rose
\nI gave to my clever and smart friend
\nbecause I wanted her as ‘my only’ friend.<\/p>\n

That one I got the first time
\nhe’d thought I was intelligent and taller.<\/p>\n

And then I got another and another
\nSome of them found place in the special diary
\ndried until the pages smelt rosy.
\nRed, pink, fragrant ones
\naccommodated many diaries.<\/p>\n

But time flies, you move from places;
\ndried petals find trash bins.<\/p>\n

And still, several moons later you love to get flowers;
\nWhen you’re a girl you believe
\nyou’re meant to receive flowers.<\/p>\n

But some girls like to return favors.
\nTo that teacher who taught well, and wasn’t as pretty;
\nthe friend who stood by the odds, staying invisible.
\nTo that one who was clumsy in love and didn’t know a thing about roses.
\nAnd the one whom you told about roses and still didn’t get a cue.<\/p>\n

Many years later you want to grow a rose garden and return favors.
