{"id":44,"date":"2013-07-28T04:06:59","date_gmt":"2013-07-28T04:06:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/manjithanda.com\/?p=44"},"modified":"2014-01-13T16:53:38","modified_gmt":"2014-01-13T21:53:38","slug":"laundry-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/manjithanda.com\/?p=44","title":{"rendered":"Laundry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/manjithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Laundry_Manjit_Handa.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-31 alignnone\" alt=\"Laundry_Manjit_Handa\" src=\"http:\/\/manjithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Laundry_Manjit_Handa-300x230.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"230\" srcset=\"https:\/\/manjithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Laundry_Manjit_Handa-300x230.jpg 300w, https:\/\/manjithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Laundry_Manjit_Handa-390x300.jpg 390w, https:\/\/manjithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Laundry_Manjit_Handa.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I bought few beautiful peels today.<br \/>\nNew clothes<br \/>\nclean, glazed, creased and perfumed.<\/p>\n<p>In summers we wear one peel<br \/>\nlike a banana<br \/>\nIn winters we turn onions.<\/p>\n<p>In many countries they remain onions<br \/>\neven in summers,<br \/>\nmay be they keep their insides cool like that.<\/p>\n<p>Some people are full of fire,<br \/>\nthey remain peeled<br \/>\neven in winters.<\/p>\n<p>It is intriguing, the plethora of peels&#8211;<br \/>\noranges, lychees, coconuts<br \/>\nkiwi, potatoes<br \/>\ncorn and what not.<\/p>\n<p>Some don&#8217;t even know they have peels<br \/>\nsuch as focused workmen and craftsmen.<\/p>\n<p>From vegetables and fruits we learnt<br \/>\nto wrap ourselves in different shades and colors.<br \/>\nBut unlike them we re-use ours<br \/>\nbecause we get them dirty with sins<br \/>\nand need constant purge in the elements.<\/p>\n<p>We should wash our own sins<br \/>\nI think<br \/>\nWhy should another human<br \/>\ndo it for us?<br \/>\nOr a mother<br \/>\nwho launders and covers her family&#8217;s sins?<\/p>\n<p>Even today when I call my mommy<br \/>\nfrom a far off country<br \/>\nI can hear the rustle of clothes in her<br \/>\nleft hand as she<br \/>\nremoves couple of clothespins<br \/>\nthat remain stuck to one or two pieces<br \/>\nof clothing.<br \/>\nThe clothes that she<br \/>\nwashed in the afternoon<br \/>\nand sunned well<br \/>\nso the family has a respectable disposition in society.<\/p>\n<p>The phone must&#8217;ve rung<br \/>\nand she would&#8217;ve emptied the clothesline<br \/>\nreaching me<br \/>\nto tell that all is well<br \/>\nand I should<br \/>\nbe good too<br \/>\nand do<br \/>\nwhat is expected.<br \/>\n(The painting &#8216;Laundry&#8217; is a watercolor on a 9&#8243;x11&#8243; hot pressed paper. This was a photograph taken by my Redbubble friend Moshe Kohen. I asked him if I could imitate it and he readily obliged.
